Featured Family {New Hampshire Family Photographer}

I loved shooting this beautiful family a few weeks ago and wanted to share one of my favorite sessions with you. This family is beautiful, I am sure you will agree. But they are more than just pretty on the outside, they really enjoy being together, laughing, and playing as a family. It was a joy to capture the true essence of these sweet little girls and their handsome Dad and gorgeous Mom. And the little mini people, couldn't you just eat them up? They are full of personality and beauty all wrapped up in a teeny adorable package.

This session truly represents the essence of my art, of the heart of my work, of the blessing I have and hope to be, of capturing a family just being and make it into something that is beautiful to look at. My hope is that I create images that makes a Mom and Dad's heart smile whenever they see the sweetness of their relationship and the honesty in capturing their most precious treasures just as they are at that moment in time.

(Click here to visit the PC Blog) They are my very dear photographer friends who live all across this great country and even as far away as the UK. They are all professional photographers, Moms, and great friends. I sent them all the entries and they narrowed it down to the top 3. Your Child Might Be Spolied If....

For her fourth birthday you drive 2 hours to a "otel" so she can swim in a "otel" swimming pool....

..and jump on a "otel" bed...

...and sleep on her brand new princess pillow in a "otel" room...

..and open her presents on a sofa bed in a "otel" room.

And your child might be spoiled if you also then take her to Hampton Beach to see gigantic waves in the aftermath of Hurricane Bill...

Then after a full day in the sun and sand take her to Chuck E Cheese's even if your hair looks ridiculous from all the wind and you are wearing shorts that look horrible on you, and you are covered in sand from being hit by ginormous waves all afternoon....

And then, drive three hours home and let her take a bath with her super cool new Barbie Mermaidia Bath Tub Thingy...

Just a few more images and a few words about our gigantic wave watching day. The waves in the aftermath of hurricane Bill were quite incredible, just amazing to watch. BUT they are dangerouls even, and I didn't really get how bad it was until we were driving home and hearing the reports of people being washed off a rocky cliff in Acadia State Park.

We were on these rocks....

when a HUGE wave came in, wasn't paying attention and we nearly lost Ella to the sea. There was a moment of shear panic as I looked around to find her. (Then another as I scanned the rocks for Max, who had been able to scramble up onto a big rock before the water hit.) Thank God she was right there, scrambling to stay on her feet with just her chin above water. We were surrounded by rocks, so she was able to hang on to one and I reached back and grabbed her before the water swept back out. It was scary for a second there and I am very glad that it wasn't as horrible as it could have been. Please pray for the family of a 7 year old girl who was swept out to sea and died today in Maine. I can only imagine the panic of that moment, the shock, and the devastation as her parents look for her and she isn't there. Please be careful if you are out there, it is amazing to watch the sea swell and crash against the wall and the rocks, but wow, we are no match for it's power.

It took awhile for her to get over it, poor baby. And on her birthday...

Okay, I am pretty sure I said, or at least I was thinking that I needed to say, that I really need to cut down on the number of images I was showing for a sneak peek. But I just couldn't. Not yet. Someday I will show myself some self control, not not for this one. Emma's session has more fabulous images in it than I know what to do with. I just couldn't get rid of any of them and I wanted to show them ALL for her sneak peek. Look at her! This girl is the reason I do this. She is outrageously gorgeous but also uber creative and a total natural in front of the camera. Romance is in the air....

My parents are taking all three of my children for 5 WHOLE DAYS. This is the first time in over 9 years that my darling husband and I have had this much time together just the two of us. So one would think we would jet off to Antigua or heck, at least out to Cape Cod for a romantic getaway. *Sigh* No. We're staying home. We've got projects to do and this new room to enjoy:

So just wanted you all to know I will be out of the office until Tuesday, having a romantic weekend painting a deck with my oh so romantic husband. Aren't I lucky? I also plan to finish reading Brideshead Revisited in my comfy new chair. I am in desperate need of a break. I realized the other day that I usually get out of bed at around 6am and I work until I go to bed nearly every day. I take breaks to make my kids lunch, entertain them a bit, go grocery shopping, eat and make dinner and to sleep, but most of my days are spent juggling them and my office from sun up until sundown and beyond. That's kinda crazy and really not very healthy. So my dear clients, if I told you 3-4 weeks on getting your proofs, really truly expect me to just make my deadline. I have become a little obsessed with under promise over deliver so that I end up doing the opposite. Being busy is the biggest blessing while it's also very challenging in trying to balance things. I've got some work to do in this department!

I will leave you with a few more of my favorite images from our trip to Summer Village in Wells, ME a few weeks ago. These images just make me happy, like joy just wells up and spills out of me when I look at them. (My two most favorite from my trip are in the post below. I have the one of the three of them in a small print in the new room. It is strategically placed on the wall diagnonal from my new chair so that when I sit in it, I can look at that image and get my happy on.

Don't Hate Me Because I am Talking About Christmas {New Hampshire Family Photographer}

I know, it depresses me too. I love Christmas. But Christmas is cold and it is hard to imagine this place gray and cold and covered in snow when it's warm and pretty out. But we have to go there for just a minute. I promise it won't take long.

Watching them Grow...{New Hampshire Family Photographer}

I know all of us Moms are always talking about how fast time goes by. One day our little ones are learning how to smile and the next walk, and then potty training, then school, and before you know it, poof. Little ones are no longer little. Chubby dimpled hands and feet, thin baby fine hair, early rising, diaper bags - it all morphs into unrecognizable boniness, thick hair a completely different color, threatening them with their lives if they don't get out of bed, back packs. It happens in a flash. This family reminded me a lot of that. I photographed these two last year when C couldn't even sit up. T was just walking, no words yet, just a bundle of boundless energy. Now they are walking and talking, playing together, running with all the energy of the wind, eating cookies together and laying down the foundations of a lifelong brother sister relationship. It made my Mama heart want to hold onto my own a little longer, to breathe in every second of their littleness, appreciate the innocence. I truly hope that when I photograph your family you put those images on your wall and you walk by them on a day when they exasperate you and you smile and remember how little they were just last year. Can I just say that there isn't really much else in this life that you can invest your money in that doesn't lose value, but gains it every day? Because I bet the Mom of these two still looks at her precious babies on that big canvas she purchased last year and finds a minute to reflect on how things have changed so much in so little time. At least I hope she does, because this is really why I love my work. It's really why I do this.

I LOVE My Job {New England Family Photographer}

Look at this beautiful family that looks like they should be in a Garnet Hill catalog.

They are just as nice as they are beautiful too. S drew me a picture. And R gave me his attention and respect all evening. And they laughed with each other and tickled each other and just "did them" while I captured all kinds of expressions like this one.

So I get to do photo shoots at places like Echo Lake which is one of the most amazing places to be on any given sunny evening.

I get to create art out of a little girl's greatest joy, which is to dance:

I get to see a little boy and his Dad laugh and wrestle and be all about being boys:

I get to see Moms and Dads, the heads of great families adoring each other, whispering inside jokes in each others ears so I can capture the purest expressions of a lifetime of shared fun:

Thank you Father God, for giving me a job that means something, that shares something, that brings me (and hopefully lots of others) great joy.

O Family, I will have your proofs in a few weeks. I want to warn you, it's going to be hard to choose, I have wayyyy too many.

Six Pounds of Sweetness

I am really done having babies. I mean really done...or so I think...then I meet Sweet Tiny Little L and I begin to question my resolve to check "complete family" off my to- do list. *Sigh* You are with me, aren't you Moms? Just LOOK at him!

Wild Success {Littleton, Hanover Family Photographer}

I can't really express my gratitude to everyone who came by to celebrate with me at my Grand Opening. It was wildly successful in every way imaginable and was much more so than I had ever dreamed. I can not tell you how exciting it was to meet lots and lots of brand new clients, have a little reunion with past clients, and get to shoot these little mini sessions that were an absolute blast. WOW! It was a super fun, tiring, exhilirating day and I mark it as the start of a whole new part of my business. Thanks to all of you who came by, sent flowers and greetings, and to so many of you who booked sessions. I can't wait to get to know you all!

That leads me to a little bit of business I need to discuss- I am booked solid for the summer. I don't think I can handle another session in my crazy summer schedule. BUT, please call me if you would like to be on the waiting list for the summer- cancellations sometimes happen so you never know what might come up. Seniors, I strongly strongly urge you to do this. Once school starts your schedules get so busy that it becomes very difficult for us to come up with a time to meet.

I am booking for September (September weekends are booked) and just opened up October. I will not be doing outdoor sessions after October 10th with small children, so if outside is your thing, you should call to book that right away. I kind of hate to say this, but Christmas isn't too far away (gulp) and it isn't too early to be planning for your Christmas pictures. So....that's it for business. What an exciting time of life, don't you think? Ali is headed off to create her life, see the world, light up lots of rooms with her incredible smile. It's like life starts now, a whole new chapter. Enjoy every minute of it Ali!

And you may remember Taylor from her high school senior session in the fall. This is Ali's sister and Mom wanted some sister shots. Congratulations are in order for Taylor too- she graduated from high school this month and has the world at her feet too. This is quite an exciting time in the Joyce household!

To me, one of the sweetest things is to experience a family growing. I photographed these oh so adorable kiddos when they were newborns last winter. It was then that I developed a little crush on big brother, and he just made me adore him even more when we hung out again last Sunday. Big Brother is one of the sweetest children you will ever meet. Seriously, he is a doll, and the best big brother to his twin brother and sister. What a fun way to spend a Sunday morning. (When one skips out on church this is REALLY a fun way to spend a Sunday morning)

Know what I love? How little sister is so passionate about balloons and bubbles. She is like this in many of her images. Just...alive!!

Grand Opening!!!!!!

It's finally here...please come by on Saturday. I am in love with my space, truly, if you can be in love with an inanimate thing, I have fallen for my studio and I just have to share the new thing in my life. The light, the decorating, the endless possibilities for creativity..she inspires, moves me and makes me want to celebrate!

So I am sorry to say that I have not been a good blogger. Readers, please forgive me. I want to blog, but somehow blogging gets the back burner. Not only have I not blogged in awhile, but I have also blogged out of order. *gasp* There are two beautiful senior reps who have not been blogged as of yet. I think I am the only one of me.

Without further adieu, I want to introduce Linda and Libby. I think they are two of the most beautiful women in all of New Hampshire. They glow. There is happiness all over their faces, in their beautiful gardens, and in their warm home. Spending time with them was one of the nicest ways to spend an afternoon. Thank you, Ladies, for giving me more reason to believe that I live the greatest life I could live!!!

I think this one is my favorite. It's hard to choose though, because they are all full of this much life and laughter.

Ssshhhhh...Don't tell Mom. This is a belated Mother's Day Present. Is that not a FABULOUS secret? From a FABULOUS girl and her FABULOUS Dad? Progress {Lake George, NY Family Photographer}

Check it out! This is my new brilliant light abode- I just can not believe how gorgeous the light is in here. I am pumped!

Here are a couple of shots of the new place. It's a work in progress, but a little happens every day. What do you think? Lookin pretty good, heh?

And some test shots, well, lots of test shots. I am getting to know this beautiful light in this new space. And my beautiful children have been so psyched up for me that they have blessed me with at least 10 whole minutes of their time for me to shoot them this week. How great is that?

The coolest thing about this new space is that I can incorporate beautiful fabrics, pillows, textures, and all kinds of great design elements into your session. These will be portraits you want to hang - really really BIG- on your walls.

Let's Start with my brand new Baby's First Year Plan! I was so fortunate to attend a workshop a couple of weeks ago with the rock star photographer Sam Puc in Woburn, MA. I went to learn from the master about how to set up a great baby and family plan. It's so great- you are going to be psyched!

One of the best ways to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon- photographing the beautiful Mom to be Carissa, in her lovely home with her sweet Daddy to be Husband, and their 3 sweet kitties. I instantly became attached to the idea of their baby and how much it would be adored, and how she or he would grow up in a home that seemed to have so much life in it. Somehow I just know this family has a happily ever after in their story.

I feel like I am standing on the edge of something great. Something big and real and dreamy and all that my Father God wants it to be. I stand in awe of Him and the gifts He gives to His children who could never deserve the love he so generously pours out on us. I stand in awe of Him who loves even when we take a step away and get too busy to be devoted to Him. And I stand in awe of this God who perfectly cares for ME, and His patience with me as I question His plan and His wisdom and His purpose. His mercy is great.

The studio is now empty. It is mine on Thursday. I start painting and hanging pictures and curtains and moving furniture in next week. It is here, this dream of mine, this little gift from the God who owns it all. And I am excited and thrilled and nervous and ecstatic to be in this place right now, where I can only trust that He knows the perfect plan. It is a fine place to be in.

Please come celebrate with me. I am going to have an open house on Saturday May 30th from 9am to 1pm. I will be doing FREE 10 minute sessions and I want to say again- these sessions are FREE. Just come and let me point my lens at your beautiful family. I want to practice with all my cool new stuff, and I will need images for a new marketing campaign, and I will just want to share with all my friends, family, and clients, a little of what will be a new part of my art work. I am going to have food and a drawing for something cool and there will be discounts on that day if you book a session. But mostly, I just want to celebrate. Sweet Sleepy Baby A {New Hampshire Newborn Photographer}

Newborn photographers celebrate babies like sweet little A. He sleeps and sleeps and never complains when you scrunch him all up and put him in hats and wrap him in blankets. This sweet fresh bundle was a photographer's dream, but also a Mama's dream. Heck, if I had any babies like him, I would have had 10. He's perfect.

I could make fun of Facebook all day, really, it's a quirky thing. But in the end, I meet interesting people there and have access to the lives of my friends across the world that I would never have otherwise. I think it's actually quite cool! I just started a new album on Facebook titled 365 Project. I took this on about a week ago, I had this feeling that I was on some sort of crazy time machine where you could only go ahead at the speed of light. The kids are changing, every day they morph into something they weren't the day before. It's hard to keep up, it's hard to manage the moments when generally we love time to pass, but maybe not certain moments, just certain ones, the ones that make our breath stop for just a minute, the ones that make us take in the sounds and the smells and the sights of the place we dwell in, the people we share time with, kwim? Have you ever had one of those moments, where suddenly your senses become extreme and your heart wants to burst and you just love? So I'm taking on this project that will keep me pointing my lens at those people in my life that cause me to have those moments, every day, 365 photos a year.

Won't it be fun? So I won't share a ton of them here, there just isn't time to, but you can catch them in my 365 Project album on Facebook if you are interested. And every now and then I will post one I love.

This one I love. And you may think this is an image of Ella, but it's not. This image is about Grace. She designed this set for a photo shoot she wanted to do with Ella this afternoon. In fact, I bet the mess is still out there in my red room, darnit. (That's what we call our RED room.) Anyway, it was such a good idea that I stole it from her. And in one breath I captured Ella's new outfit and her crazy princess/I'm being a snot/ aren't I cute anyway pose, AND the start of Grace's career as a most creative photographer. I love it.

Celebrating Motherhood..and Warmth {New Hampshire Children's Photographer}

Last year on Mother's day my family took me to play mini golf at Hobo Golf in Lincoln. Afterward we met up with our friends the K family, (this is Mama K and Baby K from a few years ago, I adore this picture of them!) We have a tradition of going to the Dairy Bar for lunch with our precious friends and then to the coolest playground ever and watching the kids play until the sun sets. The good news here is that Mother's Day is coming and if Mother's day is coming soon, that means that sunny warm weather good enough to eat ice cream and play mini golf is coming soon too, and that is cause for celebration.

So...to celebrate Moms and warm sunny days I am going to run a special, well two specials actually. I don't do specials too often, so you will know that this special is really really special. If you book a Mom's Day Session- which is really just a family or child session- I will be happy to design you a 10x20 custom storyboard for free. 10x20 Custom Storyboards are normally $155, so this is a BIG special. You must book your session prior to April 15th but the session can be completed anytime prior to July 30th.

And there's more. Dad's, if you buy your treasured wife a gift certificate for Mom's Day, I will give you the session for free. So, you buy a gift certificate in the amount of any package, you get the session for free. That is worth $100, so it is indeed a very special special. Gift certificates must be purchased by April 15th.

So to summarize, if you book a session now and purchase a package of your choice for yourself (Moms) or your dear wife, (Dads) you will save $255. How cool is that?!

Now just to let you in on a little secret- the Moms Day Special can be purchased for yourself, Moms. So don't necessarily think that you have to get Dad in gear for this. If you were already thinking about booking a session, now would be the time to do it.

Tiny Princess {New Hampshire Newborn Photographer}

*Sigh* Doesn't she just make you go, awwww? Meet sweet sweet Baby J from another newborn casting call session. I am so happy I did the casting call! It gives me the great privelge of sitting with new Moms and hearing their baby stories, chatting about life and tiny fresh humans. And then I get to hold little babies too which is just...*sigh*...sweet.

And this is Big Sister S. When she took me by the hand over to the shooting area, I of course had to play a little. Isn't she beautiful? And such a great big sister!

New Photobooks {Littleton, Hanover, Concord Family Photographer}

Do you love the UPS guy like I love the UPS guy? Like does your heart flutter when you see him come up the drive, bearing goodies with a smile? His brown jacket and pants looking so snazzy against the gray sky? I've got it bad. I love that guy. Or girl. Or whoever brings me stuff. Last week my guy brought me this and I could have kissed him.

This is a Photobook. It is a completely custom coffee table book starring....your precious little ones. It has lay flat thick glossy pages, and a custom wraparound cover. Wow, I am in love with this book!

My Firstborn Turned 9 {NH Child Photographer}

A couple of weeks ago, Grace turned 9. It was 9 years ago that I left my job on a Friday night determined that I would not be back on Monday. After 36 crazy long hours of labor Grace was born, an 8 lb 6 oz baby girl. Who knew that little chunk would end up the smallest by far of my three babies. And who knew she would be THIS: in just a speck of time.

And so I am feeling a little sentimental about my baby girl today, and after having spent a fabulous two days just us (without little bro and sis)I am feeling both sentimental and proud. Here's why:

1. We went to the American Girl store on Tuesday. She went with her own money and was told she could spend her own money but not mine. She never once asked me for anything while we were there. If she admired something she checked the price and weighed whether she wanted to give up that much money for that item. In the end, I offered to buy her pj's to match her dolls and she just said, "Really? Are you sure? Thank you so much Mommy."

2. When she stays over at a friends house the parents always tell me she can come absolutely any time. She was a delight! That makes me so proud.

3. Her teachers say she is generous and kind and stands up for others and they say it like they truly mean it.

4. I am so completely proud of the big sister that she is, how she lovingly cares for Ella and Max.

5. I think she is going to be a photographer someday. I watch her compose the most ineteresting images, with texture and color and props. She manages to get Ella to love it, and gets some great expressions out of her.

6. She is a good friend, and she chooses her friends wisely.

7. When she dances, it is like God is in the room.

8. She is so thoughtful and loves to buy gifts for just about anyone.

9. She makes the best of a bad situation. Even when she's being punished, she makes it seem like it's a good thing. This can be very annoying and quite frustrating for a mom that believes she needs to suffer as a consequence, but still a good trait.

10. She totally goes with the flow. She's happy as long as she is spending time with people she likes.

I love you baby girl! You are a precious treasure.

Off to Boston

I am so excited to be headed out for an overnight to the brand new American Girl store in Boston. I am taking only my oldest daughter - I am so excited to be spending time with her, just the two of us. We have dinner reservations there tonight and an appointment to do Nicki's -Grace's AG doll with the neediest - hair. God knows she needs it.

I bought this bag yesterday that I am so excited about. It fits my little Rebel camera theat I use for snap shots and a small lens but also has pockets for credit cards and other purse things. I have been looking for the perfect bag for trips like this and ones where we go to cool places like Disney. It is small, but big enough and has lots and lots of pockets!!

And BTW, I did not pay that much for it. It was $49 at the Hallmark store in Littleton.

Why I Love My Valentine {New Hampshire Family Photographer}

This is my Valentine.

I am going to attempt to put into words all the reasons why I adore this man. I am not much of a writer, so I can only hope that I say it just right. Here goes:

He is a Father. Like he is a Father in every sense of the word, not just a Dad. Or one of those guys that sort of babysits when Mom isn't around. He Fathers. He loves. He teaches. He disciplines. He plays. He invests in his children.

He lines up his shirts with his shirts and his pants with his pants and when he's really on, even the colors are lined up just right.

He does laundry. Yes he does. Ladies, I know you are jealous, but it's all good because this makes up for him not knowing where the vacuum cleaner is or what you use to clean a toilet.

He is good at everything because he believes he can do anything. He finished our basement after never having done anything like that before. The carpet guy wanted to know what contractor did the work because it was so flawless. This is also annoying b/c I don't have this trait.

He lets me be me. And that's hard sometimes because I am the opposite of him- emotional, passionate, and engaged. That can be challenging when emotions are not really your thing. He does it well, too, humoring me at times but also balancing me. I need balance. He is the yin to my yang.

He may not be emotional but I have seen him cry- when his children were born and whenever God moves. It's awesome to see.

He cleans up puke.

He gets me, most of the time. And when he doesn't, he tries.

He loves my business. It took awhile, but he loves it. He loves that it saved me, that it makes me, and that it was a prayer that God graciously granted me.

I am proud of his work. I am proud of his work ethic. I am proud of his success. I am proud of his provision.

He sort of has a big ego. I kinda like it. It's fun to knock it down sometimes.

He loves me anyway. And that's a really big anyway.

Baby Fever. I've got it. It's lowgrade, not like I am stopping strangers in Walmart or anything just to smell their baby's head, but it could become more serious if not treated. There are only two treatments, 1} Have a new baby or 2} Hold someone else's baby. Since my family was marked off my to-do list as complete three and 1/2 years ago, (family...check) I will have to take option #2 as my treatment. And I might as well use it also as a creative outlet to introduce the art of newborn photography to northern New Hampshire, and to finally use some of the absolutely adorable newborn hats and blankets I have recently purchased.

My Baby Boy Turned SIX

I know every mother says this, but where does the time go? I still remember when this little kiddo was a fat, and I mean FAT little man with the very same red rash on his face as he has here in the pics taken of him on his birthday. I can't remember today what it feels like to hold that little chub with those sweet red cheeks. The day Max was born (Jan 15th, 2003) the CEO of my husband's company went to jail. We called it mini Enron. From that day on we never knew whether John would have a job from day to day and we spent the first year of this child's life job searching and soul searching and searching for directon from the God who created this little soul, and the days just passed. And before long the chub was gone and the baby was gone, and the toddler waddle, and the diapers and the bottles and the binky... and then Max emerged a sweet, sensitive and rather bony six year old. It happened without me knowing, and I try so hard, but I can't remember what it feels like to squeeze that sweet baby chub. It is gone from my memory. And if it weren't for who he is now- sweet absolutely always, and sensitive, and helpful and sooo funny, I would be sad today. Well, maybe I am still a little sad. Time sometimes seems like an enemy, doesn't it?

See him in his boxers? He just started wearing them because he finally thinks he is big enough to wear boxers. Son, I vow to you right now to never ever post another picture of you in your boxers once you and your friends are old enough to have internet access. Cross my heart and hope to die.

And LOOK y'all! I found some old pics of him. Oh my goodness, look how cute he is!!

This one still makes me smile. It was in my bathroom for so long until I learned about black and white conversions and realized this one was horrible. I re-edited it today so it is going back in my bathroom.

There is a story behind the funky home made decorations. But it's boring, so I am not going to tell it.

Sweet as Sugar

Pure. Sweet. Little Girl Innocence. I loved shooting you girls! Our first session was so so cold, and they were such great sports! The second time we met, it was colder, and there was probably three feet of snow on the ground. This time, we stayed inside and kept warm. Thank you sweet "C" girls, it was great to meet you!

And these girls get their lovely from this beautiful lady, their Grandma.

Life is Sweet

The fire is going. The INCREDIBLE Maggie Smith is singing. I am surrounded by my dearest friends, we are sharing the art we've created over these last two days. There is so much talent in this room, you can hear it in the words being spoken and sung, you can feel it in the air, smell it even. It is a sweet aroma.

My sweet friends, you bless me. I grow from your investment in me every day. I am better because of you.

This is my work from these last few days. I have tons more, tons. But this is a start. I will share more tomorrow after my long journey home.

We shot these images at the Davis Plantation in Cartersville. It was beautiful, I mean beautiful. The light, the decor, the color. Then there was Melody, the model. Oh my. Beautiful. On day 2 we shot Elijah at an abandoned warehouse, which came with a visit from the cops. That was fun!

Countdown to Atlanta

Two days to go to!! I am super psyched to be meeting up with my Fellow Pixel Chicks. You may ask what a Pixel Chick is. No, it is not a weird child's electronic toy thingy. A Pixel Chick is a super talented woman photog who might be from here in the US or the UK. There are exactly ten Pixel Chicks in this world from places like CA, MI, NJ, MA, AL, GA, TN, IL, and across the pond in the UK, and I am one of them! (Can you believe that? Whoa!) You can see the Pixel Chicks blog here. It's a little bit pitiful, we admit it. We aren't so great at keeping up with it. Someday though, someday!

So we are meeting at Cindy Harter's home in Atlanta to talk and do photography for three glorious days and nights. We have met up now in New York, Chicago, and Alabama for workshops from other photographers, but this time we are doing our own workshop! At some point in our dreamy lives we hope to offer workshops to other photographers, so this will be a brain storming/ gleaning/ figuring stuff out sort of weekend. We are going to be shooting models, maternity, boudoir, newborns, babies and whoever else shows up. We are going to be talking Lightroom, Photoshop, OCF, Lighting, Business and oh yeah, we are going to be eating too. I think Candy said she was making lasagna. Go Candy.

So with that, I thought I would leave you with a few shots from our trip to NY last fall. I had never even edited these until today. Sorry Chicks. I just let time slip away. And know that we will be missing you Chicks from MI, NJ, and the UK this trip!

A Rumor....Well TWO Actually

I Love 2009. So far I mean. You know it's only been five days, but what a five days it's been!! Five days down, 359 to go. Good greif I wonder what the last 5 days of 2009 will look like, with all this going on in the first five.

Okay so what's this all about you ask? Well, I have two rumors to start. Yup, you can trace it back to here. You have my permission to gossip to everyone you know about these two things. (But only these two things. Generally, gossip is bad bad bad, but you know that.)

First, I am renting a studio. Yup. It's going to be white with natural light, and it's going to ROCK. It will be in the Tannery Marketplace and I should be announcing an official open house date for around the 1st of March soon. Did I say it's going to ROCK? Because it is. No more having to shoot in 30 degree weather, and no more worries about the rain in the summer. And I can still shoot with natural light which is my thing, you know. Now, I am a little nervous about this, it is a big step for me and my business. So the cool thing is, I will be celebrating this new venture by offering some super cool new packages and discounts- get em here while they last, cuz they won't- in honor of the new place. And because I will be itching to shoot every day three times a day in this glorious new space. And I have a new camera that I had to put my firstborn up as collateral for. It needs to get used. A Lot.

Okay, now for Rumor #2. I'll get right to it. I am going into the wedding biz. Yes, I know I said I never would. Ever. But then this guy asked me to be his partner, and I knew I could not refuse. I mean, this is a fine art portrait artist who wants ME to partner with him on weddings. How could I say no? And THEN, when I started thinking about all this, I started stalking the blogs of Jasmine Star and Jesh DeRox and David Jay (And don't even call me if you don't like David Jay, because if I were a boy I would want to BE David Jay, true story.) and I got inspired. Like, totally on fire inspired to do weddings. I never thought it would happen, but well, it did. So, I will have big announcements as soon as we iron out a few details and make a solid plan. It will be a glorious partnership of tradition and grace meets ultra creative modern hip. (Can you guess which I am?) Please exploit this rumor and let any bride you know in on this bit of gossip. You will look good, I promise, because you will know something your friends don't know. Oh, and we will travel. ANYWHERE. We especially like Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Australia. I want to thank you all for taking the time to nominate families for my Giveaway. It was humbling to read your stories, and a blessing to know of people who give and struggle and persevere. Times are tough, life is a challenge, and there are days and times when I really have that feeling of, "This is not my home, I am an alien here." As God told us so long ago, we were meant for heavenly places. This is a fallen world, a temporary abode, and it is sometimes tough to be in it. But we have a hope and a future, and on this Christmas Eve I so truly hope you know WHO that hope is, and that He loves with all His being. *Sigh* I adore this bag, it makes me sad to sell it but it has to go. My Monster Dell computer doesn't fit in it. My Dell is enormous, not your average 17 inch computer. It will fit normal 17 inch laptops, I had a 17 inch Toshiba Satellite and it was fine.

I also had in mine: 2 bodies, the 24-70L with hood, the 85, the 50, the 15mm fisheye, a 580 flash, a video camera, transmitters, and lots of cards, batteries, and other miscellaneous stuff.

It was used once. I felt so special on that trip, wheeling my fancy bag throught the airport. *Sigh* I am asking $240 shipped.

And I am also selling my 40D. I have had it for a year, it has been a fantastic camera, but I just upgraded so I just don't need this one sitting around. It is in excellent condition, so signs of wear. Comes in the original box, with all the original paperwork, software and manuals. $675 shippped.

You probably didn't even notice I was gone, but I was, for 8 glorious days to (somewhat) sunny Florida and the magic of Disney. *Sigh* It is so hard to come back to reality. I miss being called Princess, and I miss eating out at places like the new T-Rex (kinda like the RainForest Cafe' but with dinosaurs) every night, and I miss swimming in our own little pool in our backyard, and I miss the big glass wall in the living room of the house we rented that opened up to the screened in pool, and boats and roller coasters and light parades and fireworks, and oh all of it!

I took pver 600 pictures, got rid of about 400 and then I forced myself to choose just a "few" for the blog. It was so hard to pick because every image has a memory attached to it, a fun little moment in time that gives me a giggle or a sigh. So, there's lots, too many probably for the blog, but I know you are going to want to see them Mom, and it will be too long before I have the time to do a slideshow. So, enjoy, or just close it out b/c you are sick of Gaulin Disney for heaven's sake.

Ella danced absolutely everywhere she went, it was super cute and cracked us up to the point of tears at times. Crowds and dancing like a free-spirit butterfly princess do not go well together, either, so it was also tiring. See? She needs to learn to pace herself!

Fireworks at Magic Kingdom- they are so cool- and Tinker Bell comes out of the top of the Castle and slides down a huge long zipline right over our heads! WOW. There is some serious creativity, imagination and genius displayed at this place!

Waiting for our $90 lunch in Italy. Craziness.

First of all, thank you Taylor for allowing me the artisitc freedom to create these images just as I had seen them in my mind. Taylor drove a long way to our session with her beautiful horse to create these dreamy beautiful images of the two of them. It was not even 30 degrees on this morning, and I had asked her to wear a white sundress for a few of them. I can't believe she did- and she never complained. I think it was worth it, Taylor. I think I just met a little boy who is going to grow up to be something really amazing. You know how I can tell? Focus. And though this may sound a little crazy, he could seriously focus on lots of things all at one time. He was completely committing himself to the study of leaves, how a fire engine works, building a fence, eating carrots and mushrooms and even a little dirt, and the sound of an airplane. He was incredible to watch! I think whatever it is he chooses to do, he will fully immerse himself in that thing that will make him great. Have fun, Mom and Dad. You have an adventure ahead of you!

We Battled the Rain...And Won!!

It was a crazy day in NY for doing a photo shoot- rain and fog lurked over the north country all morning. It cleared up just a bit and gave us light that lit the fall colors on fire, even though they had only just started to pop out! It made for some beautiful shots in the B Family's yard. Hello L Family! Thank you so mch for choosing me to photograph your beautiful family and those gorgeous chickens! (Did I just use the word gorgeous to describe chickens?) Yup, they were really pretty. They had black feathers with little wisps of irridescent ones - so neat! It was my first time ever even touching a chicken, and that was, well, cool! We had to drive a ways to find concrete but find it we did, along with some grafiti, some funky colored brick (though a little green tree popped onto the red bricks,)and a super cool fire escape. One of my all time favorite locations.

Whenever I meet a senior, there is always something about that person that stands out, something they are that becomes clear to me during a session. I met Kelsey through e-mail. We talked a bit about who she is, what she loves, what she aspires to be. She sent me some pictures of her and her friends. And before I ever met her, I just "got" that she IS abundance. I beleive she is passionate about many things, I can see she loves animals, she's creative, interested, engaged. She is surrounded by people (and a little ferret) who love her- friends, a brother, a Mom and I am sure many more. She lives, and she lives abundantly. I expect that Kelsey will be more of something than most of us can dream of. Thank you for letting me photograph you, Kelsey. I am blessed to have met you!

Remembering 9-11 with a Lollipop

I am very heavy hearted today remembering all the suffering that this day brought to our nation 7 years ago. I am not sure why this year over other years, but I think it was this family I saw on FoxNews this morning. There were three of them, two boys and a girl, all old enough to remember and mourn the loss of their Father who lost his life in one of the Towers that day. The older boy was talking about his Dad and trying so hard to really remember things like how he smelled and what his voice sounded like, and what his hugs felt like, and the things they did together. I guess it gets harder and harder every year to really remember, and I think that makes the grief deeper and heavier to bear. After all these years it is easy for people like me, who were not directly effected by the tragedy to live on in complacency and foggy remembrance. In a way, that is part of the blessing. It's been 7 years since we have experienced such devastation. I suppose I should be on my knees, thankful for that, for our safety these last 7 years. And I am, but I admit that I forget to be. Today I am remembering. And I am thanking the Great God who allows us to live on another day. And I am breathing in the blessings of a life with my three children and my precious husband, enjoying that they can sit on a step downtown and giggle about a lollipop. That they can be oblivious, at least a little longer, to the frightening time we live in, and just have a lollipop.

Prayers going out to all the families who still suffer from their loss on 9-11-01, and to all the men and women who sacrifice their lives so that my kids can enjoy a lollipop.

Week of Firsts

It's been a big week at our house! All my little ones are growing up and going out into the world and having a blast experiencing some great new things. These two shots of Ella at her preschool dance class are some new favorites of mine from my personal snapshots. She is such a riot. I swear she thought she was there to teach the class.

Max had two big firsts this week- his first soccer practice (it started to rain so I didn't get any good action shots, just this lame one of him sluggind down some h2o), and his very first jui jitsu class. How fun! Max is a boy who doesn't love much of anything but video games so it is this Mom's delight to see a little spring in his step and a smile on his face when he's doing his new activities that don't involve the word Wii.

And though this wasn't Grace's very first ever jazz class, this is her first day for this year, so still a first. Grace takes tap, ballet, and jazz at Creative Edge Dance Studio. If you are interested in having your girls (or boys) take a dance class, I highly recommend any class taught by the devine Miss Kathy! She has taught Grace for the last several years and she always always always impresses me with her ability to get little girls to listen to her while still speaking in this soft soothing voice. Somehow I still need to raise my voice to get my point across!! She is a blessing to Grace and I appreciate all she does.

Extra Extra Read All About It!!!

Well folks, it's an exciting day today!! I got a phone call from my good friend Cindy who left me a message that went something like this, "OMG, Alli, are you so excited? Can you believe it? Congratulations!!" I had no idea what she was talking about until she explained that Mr. Miotke's book was out and I HAD MADE THE COVER!!! (Well, Ella made the cover, that's her on the bottom right) Now, I knew that a few of my images had been chosen to be IN the book, and that was exciting enough, but no one had told me that I would be ON THE COVER!!! How rockin cool is that? (Can you tell I am stoked here?)

I also need to mention that my good friend Julie has her adorable picture titled "Nummy" (LOVE that title) right next to my Ella, which makes it even MORE exciting! Our images were chosen among tens of thousands of professional and amateur photographers' images, so it is amazing that we both ended up on the cover!

Who hoo, I am off to celebrate!!!

I hear they are decorating for Christmas already in the malls... can you believe that? Well, I guess I should, because here I am talking Christmas! I promise I wouldn't bring it up except that Christmas takes some planning and we've got to get the move on so we are not going crazy the week before Christmas. And not only are they all gorgeous to look at, but they have all been beautiful people too. I am so excited to have met Sadie. She is planning to become a photographer, so you can imagine we had a lot in common. I have to admit to being a little jealous- I wish I had been together enough as a high school senior as she is (instead of madly in love with my hubby which was all I could think about back then) to know what it was that I wanted to do and be headed on the journey towards that goal. I can only begin to dream about all the things that Sadie can do with her talent and skills that she is developing at such a young age. I see huge things for her in her future, and I am so excited to someday be able to day, "I knew her when..." Congrats as you enter into your final year of high school and begin your new life!

The Kitchen

Is this not THE coolect kitchen set ever? I think I may have to leave it right in my living room. This one is made of maple.

It has a real laminate counter top, a real faucet, and a light up microwave oven. The paper towels were cut in half and mounted on a toilet paper roll.
